Priorities in our school: Raising of the quality of the learning and teaching processes. Taking part in the European educational program Socrates Comenius 1 school development project “ Competence based Autonomous learning and teaching’’. 2.Teaching and learning priorities. The government has worked out the standards what and how to teach. Thus Our school priorities are: · The syllabus - Introducing the new standard of basic education in forms 1, 4,7; · School environment - Promoting favourable school environment; · Learning and teaching - Raising the quality of learning and teaching. Taking part in European Educational program SOCRATES COMENIUS 1 school development project ”Competence based autonomous learning and teaching’’; · Pupils achievements - Raising the level of pupils’ achievements in state’s organized tests; · Educational work - 1.Integrate educational work in the syllabus; 2.Continue introducing the united pupils’ research system (forms 1,2,5,6,10,11) 3.Improve the co-operation between school and families. Our understanding of ‘competence based autonomous learning and teaching’: It is the pupils’ ability to act and make decisions without being controlled by anyone else. It is independent learning but not a component of learning process in a traditional meaning (pupil does the task by himself). The pupil uses the materials (help) prepared by his teachers . Thus we prepare pupils for life - long education. Priorities in our school Raising of the quality of the Learning and teaching processes. Taking part in the European educational program Socrates Comenius 1 school development project “competence based autonomous learning and teaching. What starting points are considered for the organization of classes and groups (conditions enhancing intercultural learning) Intercultural diversity is mostly seen in families in Latvia, not so much in learning and traditions, Festivities teachingprocess. Acquiring history, culture history, the history of Latvian Literature are mentioned events, facts, achievements connected with Latvias history. Intercultural relationships are not so negative, contradictive to insult people and their children because of their nationality religion or ethnic traditions. The problems (inc Luding) education are the consequences of the Former soviet totalitari an regime. For example, accepting the Law about Latvian as a state language, introducing bilingual education at schools with not Latvian Learning Language. There are children of different nationalities in Latvia and they are not discriminated. European problems of intercultural diversity are not actual for the time being in Latvia. In our school all pupils have equal rights to get education, take part in different interest groups. We have integration project with schools where the Learning Language is not Latvian. How “free” is the choice for pupils, staff members Teachers educational activities in Latvia and Līvāni are regulated by the law of Education, the law of General Education. They should observe “The rules about the reqirements teachers need for their education and professional qualification” set by LR MC. During the teaching process should compulsory be observed the standard for basic education and the standards for general secondary education. The teacher is free to choose the curriculum – either to work according to the curriculum set by EM or write his own curriculum. The teacher can choose the teaching materials, technical aids and the methods. The teacher can scoose any school if his scoice corresponds the demans of the educational establishment and the teacher’s post description. Every child in Latvia has the right to attend school close to his home. But there is also a possibility to get basic education in alternative or private schools which are accredited by ME. Mostly form 5-9 pupils learn in their local authorities schools but there can be exceptions: · Parents scoose the school which corresponds his child’s interest · The child and parents choose the schoolaccording to the child’s future carree. 3 kinds of general education are offered: 1. 2. Children with specific needs. 3. Children with mental disturbances. General secondary education (which is not compulsory) one can get in Secondary school College Professional vocational school Tehnical school According to pupils wish. Our school offers 7 educational programs 3 of them (forms 5-6, children with specific needs and mental disturbances are set up following the parents request. How the learning environment and learning time is determined by… The rules of Latvia Republic MC regulates the order of providing general educational establishments with financial means. Local authorities confirm the order and sources of financing. Funding is not sufficient to create an up – to date Learning environment (furniture, equipment, ICT). The low teachers salaries degrade the profession’s prestige and influence teachers emotional feeling. To raise teachers’ self – confidence they should take part in different projects thus obtaining extra money for fulfilling their level of education. Līvāni district town Council gives 34% of its budget to finance the educational process. It is a guaranter for the development of modern learning environment. The “teaching” and “holiday” period is set by EM regulations and it refers to all schools in Latvia. As summer holidays are very long (3months) the Learning period is quite intensive, pupils are sometimes overloaded. To realize the syllabus the teachers are limited in time and they have to be professionals. The achievements of pupils lose the quality. After 3 month holidays pupils have to revise the material taught in the previous year. A positive fact is that during the learning period 5 days a year are for writing projects. It lets pupils work independently with interactive methods. Learning environment in class directly and indirectly is influenced by social background of the pupils. The child learns much from his social problems: poverty violence, alchocol influence child’s feeling, learning motivation, mutual relationship with peers. Organizing learning process we should consider: · how to lessen social driving out in pupils environment, · how to raise learning motivation, · how to insure pedagogical c0-operation-school-parents. |
